The area of plitvice lakes,
declared a National Park in 1949, is a valley situated between high forested
mountains in which lies, one bellow another, a string of sixteen beautiful
lakes and tarns of crystal blue-green color. They are fed by many small
streams and brooks and spill into each other in foaming cascades and thundering
waterfalls. Due to their unique evolution and beauty, in 1979 the Plitvice
Lakes were entered in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The Plitvice Lakes
delight by their scenery. In the waterless karst with its sparse vegetation
you come suddenly upon a treasure of water in which are reflected densely
forested hills. Here is a diversity and an inexhaustible abundance of
details, on every visit new things are discovered. The exceptional beauty
of the lakes and waterfalls, rich plant and animal life, contrasting colors,
forests and the pure mountain air, comfortable hotels and rustic restaurants
attract many nature lovers from all over the world...

Proclaimed a national park in 1985;
it is the seventh national park in Croatia. It occupies an area of 111
km2 along the course of the Krka River, two kilometres downstream from
Knin to Skradin, and the lower course of the Cikola.
The travertine, limestone sediment from
water, which builds the travertine curtains, sills, beards and other geomorphologic
forms, is the fundamental phenomenon and principal feature of the National
Park. The falls are a biodynamic creation, the living travertine constantly
growing today as well, through the sedimentation process. The Krka River
rises at the foot of Mt Dinara not far from Knin. With the drowned part
of the mouth, it is about 72 km long. The total area of its basin is 2,088
km2. The mean annual flow across Skradinski buk (waterfall) is 55 m3/s,
and when there are heavy rains in the hinterland this can rise to over
350 m3/s. Krka, with its seven travertine falls of Bilušica buk (22.4
m), Corica buk or Brljan (15.5 m), Manojlovacki slapovi (a series of falls
59.6 m high with a main step of 32 m), Rošnjak (8.4 m), Miljacka
slap (23.8 m), Roški slap (25.5 m) and Skradinski buk (17 steps with
a total height of 45.7 m), and a total drop of 242 m, is a phenomenon
of nature and the karst.
Along its course through the karstic
Dinaric Alps, the Krka Rivera cut out a beautiful canyon containing breathtaking
waterfalls and rapids, all immersed in rich vegetation. The highest fall
is called Skradinski Buk (46 m).

Rafting, as a combination of adventure,
sport and fun, has reached its top success just here, in Omiš, between
Split and Makarska. The Cetina River and its canyon of the magnificent
beauty give you an unforgettable experience, justifying epithet of the
town of Omis, as the best place for rafting, either for the beginners
or for the experts and old fans. You don't have to go far from the sea
to meet the charm of the River; just few kilometres upstream from the
mouth of the Cetina begins the three hours trip-adventure through the
picturesque river cuts, dancing waterfalls and rapids, meanwhile offering
the clear water surrounded by green woods.16 km long trip ends in the
gorgeous "Radmanove Mlinice"-town green area, where you can
rest and enjoy the natural environment, which gives you, with fresh air
and specific relief, differing much from the near coast, the picture of
Omis, as a small town with great contrasts. And that's what Omis is -
small town for pleasant and active holiday.
The level of water is controlled by a hydro power plant, so during the
summer, when the level of water of other rivers is low, this river provides
good quality rafting. It is near the sea so the mild Mediterranean climate
allows rafting during the entire year. The river Cetina offers us a lot
of excitement and also a glance in its unparallel beauty.
